Voice professor premieres work at international conference
Amy Rosine, soprano, associate professor in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, premiered the song cycle "No Ordinary Woman!," at the International Clarinet Association Conference in Reno, Nevada.
The work, commissioned by her ensemble, Sorores Duo, is written by American composer Gwyneth Walker and set to the text of Afro-American poet Lucille Clifton, 1936-2010.
According to the composer, these songs might have been subtitled "Songs of Self Reflection," for they present the poet musing about her own life, and specifically her physical appearance. One imagines the poet looking in the mirror with amusement, horror and a strong sense of her own history. Sorores Duo recorded this cycle, along with other works by Walker, and the recording will be released in late 2022.
