Woods hired as associate vice president for research compliance
Brad Woods will join K-State as associate vice president for research compliance starting Sept. 4. Woods will succeed Cheryl Doerr, who now serves as the biorisk program manager at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility.
"Dr. Woods brings a wealth of knowledge to the position," said Beth Montelone, senior associate vice president for research. "He understands the complexity of the quickly evolving research and regulatory compliance landscape and will be a great asset to K-State."
Woods currently serves as executive director of the Office of Research Integrity at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Previously, he was the associate director of the Research and Integrity and Compliance Review Office and served as director of the conflict of interest program at Colorado State University where he also was an affiliate faculty member in the sociology department. Woods graduated from Penn State in 2010 with a dual-title doctoral degree in rural sociology and human dimensions of natural resources and the environment.
As associate vice president for research compliance, Woods will be responsible for regulatory oversight and compliance of university research and teaching programs with applicable federal, state, local and organizational rules, regulations, policies and guidelines. He will ensure responsible conduct of research and oversee post-approval monitoring, compliance training, animal care and use, occupational health programs and aspects of export control compliance. Woods will provide oversight and leadership for the University Research Compliance Office and will operate the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Biosafety Committee and Dual Use Research of Concern Committee. He also will administer the select agent program.
"Great universities like K-State are leading the way in the interdisciplinary collaborative research space," Woods said. "In my forthcoming role, I look forward to supporting the many talented faculty, students and research staff who seek to push the boundaries of discovery by facilitating a culture of research compliance and integrity as K-State closes in on its 2025 Visionary Plan."
