Whitcomb to present 'You only believe that because you’re a philosopher' today

Dennis Whitcomb, philosophy department alumnus, will deliver the talk "You only believe that because you're a philosopher" at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in 203 Dickens Hall.

He also will conduct a student-focused, read-or-watch-ahead philosophy of religion discussion at 11 a.m. Friday April 26, in 201 Dickens Hall based on his paper "Grounding Precludes Omniscience." This lecture can also be viewed online.

Whitcomb graduated with honors from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 2001.

He won a Javits fellowship, and finished a doctorate in philosophy at Rutgers in 2007. He then joined the faculty at Western Washington University. He received tenure and promotion to associate professor in 2011.

His work lies at the intersection of value theory and epistemology, and has appeared in such prestigious journals as Philosophy and Phenomenological Research and Syntheses. He has also published two edited volumes with Oxford University Press.
