The K-State Sales Team recently took home first place in the Huhtamaki Sales Competition on Oct. 13-14, hosted in Kansas City, Missouri.

The team had four students participate in the competition: Jackson Halliburton, senior in marketing, Bucyrus; Kirsten Jackson, senior in marketing, Olathe; Breanna Paschke, junior in marketing, Maple Grove, Minnesota; and Taylor Moorman, sophomore in professional strategic selling, Emporia. The team was coached by Kellie Jackson, managing director of the National Strategic Selling Institute and sales team coach, and Edward Nowlin, associate professor in Marketing.

Moorman advanced to the finals, placing fourth in the competition. Both Halliburton and Paschke received honorable mentions.

The K-State Sales Team competed against the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri, with 12 student competitors competing in role-play events. The leading sponsor of the competition was Huhtamaki. In this fictitious scenario, students acted as account managers from Huhtamaki, positing the Huhtamaki Edge Prep Yogurt Cup as the best solution to offer for the customer.

"I'm extremely proud of the students and the level of preparation they devoted to preparing for this competition as shown in the results," Jackson said. "We greatly appreciate Huhtamaki's support in providing this opportunity for our students. The continuous support and partnership they provide our program are very important to us as we continue to educate and develop the next generation of sales talent."

The K-State Sales Team is in the College of Business Administration's National Strategic Selling Institute, which has been named one of the top sales programs in the country for 11 straight years by the Sales Education Foundation. The team consists of students who are enrolled in the certificate or major in professional strategic selling. K-State offers a major in professional strategic selling. Students can also earn a certificate in professional strategic selling, which is open to all majors at the university. The professional strategic selling program introduces students to the fundamentals of sales and the innovative curriculum and sales labs allow students to develop the skills needed to be successful.

The K-State Sales Team will be competing in several competitions throughout the school year across the country. For more information on the National Strategic Selling Institute or the K-State Sales Team, please contact kstatesalesprogram@k-state.edu
