Grain science to host Fall Seminar Series featuring CEO of Kansas Wheat Justin Gilpin
The grain science and industry department's Fall 2022 Seminar Series will feature Justin Gilpin, CEO of Kanas Wheat, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in 311 Shellenberger Hall.
The seminar is open to the general public. The event will include a reception from 12:30-12:40 p.m. with food and beverages and a chance to visit and interact with the speaker. The seminar, "Kansas Wheat Farmers' History of Support to Cereal and Food Science and Current Trends in the Wheat Industry," will follow.
Gilpin will discuss trends in the Kansas wheat industry with production, quality and markets. There is a storied history of farmers investing and partnering with cereal and food scientists at K-State and the International Grains Program. The focus will be on leveraging these relationships to strengthen marketing and research programs, as well as increasing the visibility of the K-State student experience.
Gilpin is a graduate of K-State's milling science program. Before Kansas Wheat, Gilpin worked at General Mills as a wheat buyer for flour mills. He executed daily wheat market orders on the floor of the Kansas City Board of Trade and worked with flour sales, elevator and mill management. He has been involved with several U.S. Wheat Associates committees, is past chair of the Kansas City Board of Trade Cash Basis Committee, Wheat Quality Council board member and is an adjunct research scientist for K-State's grain science and industry department. He serves as chairman of Heartland Plant Innovations and leads efforts at the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center on K-State's campus.
