Four members of the K-State Sales Team participated in the Northeast Intercollegiate Sales Competition, hosted by Bryant University on Nov. 11-12.
All four team members — Hunter Hartner, junior in professional strategic selling and marketing, Belleville; Blaine Kramer, junior in professional strategic selling, Atchison; Colton Williams, senior in professional strategic selling, Osage City; and Halle Zwetow, junior in professional strategic selling and marketing, Witchita — advanced to the semifinals and placed in the top 60. Kramer advanced to the finals and placed sixth out of 133 competitors in the role-play competition.
The competition hosted 27 universities and over 230 competitors. Students competed in both role-play and speed-selling events. The role-play competition was set up so students advanced through a series of three rounds of role-plays and were evaluated on their approach and rapport, needs identification, presentation, handling of objections, closing and communications skills.
In addition to the role-plays, the students participated in the speed-selling competition. Students had to prepare and practice a 60-second introductory elevator pitch as to why a company should hire them and were evaluated on their delivery. Each student had to give their pitch to the event’s four company sponsors. The leading sponsor for the event was Insight Global.
"It was great to have all four students advance to the semi-finals and be rewarded for their hard work and preparation for the event," said Kellie Jackson, managing director of the National Strategic Selling Institute and sales team coach. "Given the setup for this event, having one student represented in the finals was spectacular; the team came together to support each other throughout the entire event. I am proud of their efforts and am excited to see the students’ continued success."
The K-State Sales Team is in the College of Business Administration’s National Strategic Selling Institute, which has been named one of the top sales programs in the country for 11 straight years by the Sales Education Foundation.
