Join MLK community celebrations
Mark your calendars and join the Manhattan Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Committee during the MLK Community Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Douglass Center, 900 Yuma St. in Manhattan.
Join the community in prayer, reflection and pastries with keynote speaker Rana Johnson, K-State inaugural vice president for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Prayer will be led by the Rev. E. Fletcher, Bethel AME Church, Manhattan. The MLK Art and Writing Contest winners will also be announced during this time. The theme for this year's events is inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.'s quote, "True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice."
The community MLK events are made possible through many partnerships, including the K-State College of Agriculture's Diversity Programs Office, Manhattan Nonviolence Initiative, KMAN radio, Bethel AME Church, College Avenue United Methodist Church, K-State Staley School of Leadership, City of Manhattan, Riley County, USD 383, HandsOn Kansas State, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
