Lavis recognized for teaching excellence by the American Horticultural Society

Cathie Lavis, associate professor and extension specialist of landscape horticulture, is the recent recipient of the American Horticultural Society 2013 Teaching Award. This national award is given to an individual whose abilities to share horticultural knowledge with others has contributed to a better public understanding of the plant world and its importance on society.
Lavis will be honored for the award at the awards ceremony June 6 at the society’s headquarters at River Farm, Alexandria, Va.
Lavis has been with the department of horticulture, forestry, and recreation resources since 1993 and teaches several upper division courses. She earned her doctorate from K-State with her research focusing on intellectual development of horticultural students.
