Opportunities to strengthen practices in scholarly engagement
Engagement is critical for a land-grant university to thrive. At Kansas State University, we embrace engagement as a shared responsibility at the institution, college, department and individual levels.
The Office of Engagement provides opportunities to help K-State faculty, staff and students to develop and deepen their scholarly engagement practices to excel in higher education.
Below are three opportunities that we are excited to share with K-State faculty, staff and students:
• When Everyone Leads in a Land-Grant University — noon to 1 p.m. April 5 in Town Hall, 114 Staley School of Leadership.
"When everyone leads the toughest challenges get seen and solved" is the latest book from the Kansas Leadership Center. Co-authors Ed O’Malley and Julia Fabris McBride present a new approach to engaging in the act of leadership.
Join a free leadership development event, When Everyone Leads in a Land-Grant University, where we will discuss concepts from the When Everyone Leads book. The discussion is open to all K-State faculty, staff and students.
• Engagement Scholarship Consortium annual conference — submit proposals by March 31.
K-State is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium. The consortium's goal is to work collaboratively to build strong university-community partnerships anchored in the rigor of scholarship and designed to help build community capacity. They offer a host of resources and opportunities to get involved.
The consortium invites faculty, staff and students to submit proposals to its annual conference. These proposals highlight scholarly work connected to the advancement of community engagement. K-State's Office of Engagement is committed to supporting travel for up to six individuals whose proposals are accepted for the 2023 conference. Find proposal submission details. If your proposal is accepted, contact the office at ooengage@k-state.edu to discuss funding availability.
• Imagining America — PAGE Fellowship for graduate students.
K-State is a member of Imagining America. Working across institutional, disciplinary and community divides, Imagining America strengthens and promotes public scholarship, cultural organizing and campus change that inspires collective imagination, knowledge-making and civic action on pressing public issues. They offer a host of resources and opportunities to get involved.
One opportunity is a graduate fellowship experience. Imagining America invites graduate students with a demonstrated interest and commitment to public scholarship or artistic practice to apply for the PAGE Fellowship. Awardees receive a year's worth of mentorship, professional development training and community support as well as a travel stipend to attend a Fellows Summit during the national conference. Check in spring 2023 for more information on the 2023-2024 PAGE Fellows cohort on Imagining America's website.
