Yu serves as immersion choirs chair for national conference
Submitted by School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Julie Yu, professor of music and co-director of choral studies, was the chair of the immersion choirs at the national conference of the American Choral Directors Association hosted Feb. 21-24 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The national conference immersion choirs were intended to provide artistic, cultural and educational experiences for conference members to actively engage in. Members immersed themselves in a wealth of literature, styles and rehearsal techniques that may be different from their own traditions and experiences.
The four immersion choirs were the Black Diaspora Immersion Choir, the Indigenous Peoples Immersion Choir, Latinoamerica Immersion Choir and the Vocal Jazz Immersion Choir.
Julie Yu's choirs have performed in Carnegie Hall, Hawaii, the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., as well as in Austria, Czech Republic, France, Ireland and Italy. In addition to teaching, she is an active guest clinician/conductor for various honor choirs and professional organizations around the country. Learn more.
