Suicide awareness
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Human Capital Services encourages you to pause and consider whether you or someone you know could use a hand. By taking away the stigma and removing the barriers to treatment, Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a reminder that help is available and accessible.
Suicide prevention begins with all of us.
Common suicide warning signs include:
• Talking about suicide and death.
• Threatening or hinting at suicide.
• Tidying up affairs: drawing up a will, giving away possessions.
• Drastic changes in behavior.
• Withdrawing from social interaction.
• Sudden neglect of appearance.
• Self-mutilation.
• Sudden drug or alcohol abuse.
• Expressing feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.
• Previous suicide attempts.
• Family or peers who have recently attempted or committed suicide.
