Sapiens Symposium celebrates anthropology students
The anthropology program hosted the Sapiens Symposium, its annual signature event, on April 28.
Khiana Harris, class of 2015, presented the keynote address. Harris was accepted into the prestigious JET program for teaching in Japan after graduation and is now completing her master's degree in library and information science at Emporia State University. Harris has also been an activist in the Sunrise Movement for Climate Justice.
Several current anthropology students gave short talks and presentations about their anthropological work, travels and research.
The anthropology program congratulates the following students who received awards at the Sapiens Symposium event:
- Susana Jones, K-State Archaeological Field School Scholarship.
- Noay Clayman, Mike Finnegan Award for Physical Anthropology and The Harriet Joseph Ottenheimer Linguistic Anthropology Scholarship.
- Kat Rieke, Patricia J. O'Brien Scholarship Award in Archaeology.
- Nina Tiger, Biological Anthropology Achievement Award.
- Madison Franklin, Cultural Anthropology Achievement Award and the Anthropology Ambassador Award.
- Jessie Hovis, Anthropology Ambassador Award.
- Sophie Linkiewicz, Martin and Harriet J. Ottenheimer Adventurous Anthropology Award.
