Peri da Silva to lead economics department

The economics department announces Peri da Silva has accepted the role of department head. His term will begin Sunday, June 11.
Da Silva came to K-State in fall 2011 from the University of North Dakota, where he was an associate professor of economics. He is an international trade economist with research interests in the political economy of trade and trade agreements. He has served as a consultant for the World Bank and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. His work has been published in the Economic Journal, the Journal of Political Economy and the Journal of International Economics, among others. Da Silva is also a fellow of the GEP center at the University of Nottingham and the L'dA at the University of Milan.
Da Silva earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. He earned his master's degree from Getúlio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro and his bachelor's degree from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
