2011 Assessment Awards recognize outstanding achievements

The Office of Assessment hosted the Fall 2011 Assessment Showcase Nov. 2 in the K-State Student Union. The showcase featured best practices in assessment of student learning at Kansas State University, and included a keynote address by Loraine H. Phillips, director of the office of institutional assessment at Texas A&M University. The event concluded with an awards presentation by Provost and Senior Vice President April Mason.
The following individuals and programs were recognized for their outstanding achievements in student learning assessment:
- Enhancing the assessment process resulting from faculty discussions of assessments: American ethnic studies program
- Program improvement resulting from faculty discussions of assessments: Communication studies program
- Program improvement resulting from faculty discussions of assessments: Food science and industry program
- Program improvement resulting from faculty discussions of assessments: Interior design program
- Contributions to the College of Business Administration's assessment process: Brian Kovar, instructor, department of management
- Outstanding leadership and initiative in student learning assessment: Marriage and family therapy program
- Outstanding leadership and initiative in student learning assessment: Dixie Schierlman, associate dean of student life at K-State Salina
- Outstanding leadership and initiative in student learning assessment: Levi Esses, assistant director of student life at K-State Salina
- A well-designed assessment process that demonstrates program improvement: Personal financial planning program
- Effective use of assessments for program improvement: Sociology program
