Kansas State University has selected Jaylen Lane, an experienced government affairs professional, as its new associate director of government relations, effective July 24.
As the associate director, Lane will connect with state and federal officials to advocate for and generate support favorable to the interests of K-State. He will work with university leadership to develop a comprehensive federal government relations strategy and agenda and serve as a major conduit for communications between the university, congressional district offices and legislators.
"I'm extremely honored to have the opportunity to represent my alma mater and help to continue K-State's tradition of exemplary representation in government relations," Lane said. "As a lifelong Kansan and a K-State graduate, it has always been a dream of mine to be a part of the university that has been so instrumental in sculpting the person I am today."
Lane has served as the government affairs manager for Watkins Public Strategies since 2019, where he has collaborated with legislators and other stakeholders to advance the interests of clients and managed the firm's interns and campaign consulting.
Prior to joining Watkins Public Strategies, Lane served as a legislative liaison in the Kansas Department of Revenue and as a government relations intern in the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
Through his previous roles, Lane has developed valuable relationships with Kansas lawmakers and members of the administration. Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives Daniel Hawkins and Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson have praised Lane's understanding of policy and clear communication.
Lane earned a bachelor's degree in business administration marketing from K-State in 2016.
