Devlin receives award from Universities Council on Water Resources
The Universities Council on Water Resources has named Daniel Devlin a Friend of UCOWR for his many contributions to water research during his long career. This special recognition is given only to individuals who have made substantial contributions in time and effort toward expanding the capacity of universities to address water resources challenges across the nation.
Devlin's award was presented to him last week at a special luncheon during the council's annual conference in Fort Collins, Colorado.
"Dr. Devlin's contributions to the field of water research cannot be overstated," said Susan Metzger, director of the Kansas Center for Agricultural Resources and the Environment, or KCARE, and the Kansas Water Resources Institute, or KWRI. "His work played a fundamental role in Kansas to promote science-based efforts to both conserve our state's water resources and to protect water quality."
Devlin recently retired from Kansas State University, where he served as the interim head of the Western Kansas Research and Extension Centers and was director for both KCARE and KWRI. Devlin is also a professor emeritus in the agronomy department at K-State. His work focused on Great Plains agriculture, the sustainability of the Ogallala Aquifer, pesticide surface and groundwater movement, watershed planning, and best management practices for soil erosion and pesticide usage.
