Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Kilgore
John Kilgore, teaching assistant professor of trumpet, performed as a soloist with the Blue Lake Festival Band conducted by Rebecca Philips, Colorado State University, at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan.

He performed the "Concertino for Three Brass" composed by Floyd Werle as part of the Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival on June 25. Kilgore shared the stage with trombonist William Mann, Georgia State University, and tubist Clinton McCanless, University of Louisville. The performance was held at Stewart Shell on the campus of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and was live broadcast on Blue Lake Public Radio.

Located on a 1,600-acre campus in Michigan's Manistee National Forest, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp offers a diverse range of fine arts education programs to nearly 4,500 students — from the United States and abroad — annually. Kilgore has served on the summer applied faculty since 2019.

Kilgore has been on the faculty at the Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance since 2019. As a scholar, he has presented research and performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, and he's regularly published in the ITG Journal. As an invited clinician, Kilgore has presented master classes and recitals at institutions such as the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Oklahoma State University, Ohio University and Wichita State University, among others. As a teacher, his students and studio have competed at the National Trumpet Competition. Kilgore holds degrees from Ohio University and the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He holds a doctorate in music from Florida State University.
