Advisor Forum presents July Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum announces that Julie Hunt, academic program coordinator for K-State Global Campus, has been selected for the July Charlie Award.
Hunt is receiving this award because of the years of service to K-State advisors and the Advisor Forum. Although her current role doesn't have a direct impact on advising, Hunt spent 15 years advising students as an open option advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. Hunt is the founder of the K-State Advisor Forum and helped create a space where advisors felt comfortable connecting with one another. She was integral in helping start numerous initiatives on campus that gave advisors the information and professional development they needed to do their job well.
Her enthusiasm for the work she was doing was infectious and it is impossible to calculate the number of students she affected during her 15 years of advising.
From one of her nominators, Becca Dale, "Julie's superpower is inclusion. She was the first person at K-State to see me as a professional academic advisor and include me as a co-presenter for a conference. That gave me the confidence to be more involved in the advising community at K-State."
We asked other advisors to send us their comments and thoughts as we completed this letter, those added comments are below.
From Ashley Blake, "Julie was one of the first advisors I was introduced to on campus when I began advising 10 years ago. I spent time with her in weekly Arts and Sciences meetings but really got to know her during Dean Wheatley's holiday parties. I remember how kind she was straight out of the gate, and I really looked up to her as a seasoned advising professional. Her work in forming the Advisor Forum with the vision of keeping it from becoming a formal committee as a safe space for advisors to discuss roadblocks and opportunities to enhance the advising experience at K-State was (and still is) invaluable. Julie makes people feel welcome and heard. She is an includer. I know the thousands of students' lives she touched over her years in that role would attest to those traits. K-State has been blessed by Julie Hunt, both on-campus and online."
From Kaela Urquhart, "I really enjoyed having Julie on the Arts and Sciences dean's office team when I started. I respected her leadership with the Advisor Forum and her help in establishing the leadership team! She has done so much good for K-State."
For the last eight years, Hunt has been working with K-State Global Campus and will officially retire from Kansas State University on Friday, July 7. We are excited for Hunt as she starts this new life adventure. We would like to thank Hunt for the work she has done for the K-State academic advising community and congratulate her on her retirement.
