Special August open enrollment for long-term care insurance
The State Employee Health Plan is hosting a special open enrollment window for long-term care insurance coverage. The enrollment window to enroll with limited health questions is from Aug. 1-25. Please note that employees cannot enroll in this benefit during the normal open enrollment period for health insurance in October.
What is long-term care? It's a term used to describe services people need when they're unable to care for themselves and require extensive medical assistance, including home health care, nursing home care or skilled facility care. Long-term care is different from medical care in that it provides assistance with basic tasks, sometimes referred to as activities of daily living, such as acts of personal hygiene, dressing, transferring to or from bed/chair, and eating.
Some of the features include:
- A one-time opportunity for reduced health underwriting and no medical exam to prove good health between Aug. 1-25. Actively-at-work employees 18-64 and actively-at-work spouses 18-49 are eligible. Additional underwriting will apply to all others 18-69.
- Affordable, comprehensive, individually owned plans that remain in effect even if you leave employment with the State of Kansas.
- Unisex rates: Women typically pay more for long-term care plans, but not with the State of Kansas plan. The rates are not gender based.
