Student and faculty cancer research awards applications due Oct. 1
Kansas State University's Johnson Cancer Research Center is now accepting applications for the fall semester faculty and student awards.

The center supports the innovative and collaborative research of its faculty members in 20 departments across five colleges, as well as the training of their undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Johnson Cancer Research Center faculty members are eligible to apply for awards and sponsor applications for their students. K-State faculty members who do cancer-relevant research are invited to apply for membership by contacting Sherry Fleming, director of the center and professor of biology, at sdflemin@k-state.edu.
This fall, the center is offering Innovative Research Awards to provide faculty with seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for major grant proposals, as well as additional interdisciplinary planning awards. Modest travel awards are being offered for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to travel to learn new scientific techniques, visit collaborators or present at meetings.
For undergraduate students, the center is offering cancer research awards for non-STEM cancer research, creative inquiry and discovery projects. Awardees will work on research projects during the late fall and spring semesters and receive $2,000 in the late spring. Awardees will also enroll in DAS 506 to allow Undergraduate Research Experience to show on their transcripts. Faculty mentors receive $1,000 per student for research expenses. Students must apply along with a faculty mentor.
The Johnson Cancer Research Center, which is part of Kansas State University’s College of Arts and Sciences, supports and advances cancer research, education and outreach. The cancer research awards are funded by private donations.
