Libraries faculty present at SIDLIT
Four faculty members from K-State Libraries gave presentations at the Summer Institute on Distance Learning and Instructional Technology, or SIDLIT, Aug. 1-2 in Overland Park.
Joelle Pitts, instructional design librarian, presented "Flipping the research classroom." Her presentation focused on how librarians and instructors can work together to radically flip the research classroom, providing a more effective, differentiated and personalized research instruction experience than traditional one-shot lectures.
Pitts; Dan Ireton, undergraduate and community services librarian; and Ben Ward, Information Technology Assistance Center instructional technologist; presented "Transmedia storytelling: How we built a massive campuswide game," which described their experiences prototyping, designing and gaining campus stakeholders to build a massive campuswide Alternate Reality Game in conjunction with our campus common read, "Ready Player One."
Marc Nash and Holger Lenz, instructional design residents, presented "Now they've built it... who will come? - An examination of interactive online learning platforms." Their presentation evaluated various massive open online course platforms by price, learning curve and overall design, to determine, which platform best suit the needs of institutions operating under tight budgets and with limited staff.
