Kutay Guler recognized as Professor of the Week
Kutay Guler, associate professor of interior architecture and industrial design, was recognized as Professor of the Week at the Jan. 2 men's home basketball game. Faculty Senate, the Office of the President, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing wish to recognize his contributions to K-State.
A design educator of 16 years, Guler has been a part of the department of interior architecture and industrial design family since 2018 and contributing to student success in a multitude of ways, through innovative teaching, research and authorship efforts.
Over the last six years, Guler helped foster a robust research culture in graduate level design studios, guiding his students in developing sensibility and understanding for human, societal and environmental issues, while facilitating top caliber student research, enabling them to present alongside established academics in internationally recognized events.
Moreover, his numerous publications on understanding how technology can benefit education were featured in high-impact factor journals, uncovering unique insights that helped him develop compelling learning experiences. He has authored four books, including "Interior Materiality" a free open textbook that is being utilized by numerous interior design departments across the nation. His most recent editorship effort, "Transforming Issues in Housing Design," was recently published by Wiley and encompasses the most current and relevant issues pertaining to housing design. This collection of 22 essays was developed partly as a guide for his thesis students to further their comprehension of housing and chart their own unique research pathways.
As a multi-award-winning licensed interior architect, he has completed dozens of commercial and residential interiors, along with many other design and visualization projects for an international clientele, enabling him to educate designers of highest caliber, with robust understanding of not only the theory but also the practice of design.
