Architectural engineering team takes first in design competition
A team of three seniors in architectural engineering were awarded first place in the HVAC system selection category of the recent 2013 ASHRAE Student Design Competition. Garrett Elder, Nathan Love and Nick Theimer competed against 41 entries from eight different countries in taking the top prize. Faculty advisers were Julia Keen, and Fred Hasler, associate professors from the department of architectural engineering and construction science at Kansas State University.
This year’s competition required teams to propose and design a heating and cooling system for a mock design of a high-rise residential building in Dallas, Texas, taking into account the triple bottom line: profit, people and planet. The project will be shared at the 2014 ASHRAE Winter Conference in New York City, Jan. 18-22, 2014.
