Jocelyn Colella to present Division of Biology Seminar
Submitted by Division of Biology
Jocelyn Colella, assistant professor and curator of mammals in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Kansas, will present "Molecular Evolution of Predators, Prey, and Parasites Across Complex Landscapes" as part of the Division of Biology Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, in Room 221 of Ackert Hall.
Molecular investigation of mammalian carnivores along North America’s North Pacific Coast has revealed a dynamic history of geographic isolation, contact and genetic exchange. Regional wildlife translocations have reshuffled local diversity, occasionally leading to extirpation or replacement of native fauna. When patterns of host evolution are less clear, parasites provide an additional layer of information to help us understand species evolution across complex landscapes. Together, molecular perspectives of predators, prey and parasites can paint a more complete picture of evolutionary dynamics.
