Discover Guatemala in a 6-week service-learning program
Looking for a life-transforming experience? The department of food, nutrition, dietetics and health offers a six-week service-learning program, "Discover Guatemala: Where culture, adventure and education collide," in Guatemala where students and faculty work with the Maya people to improve quality of life. There is an on-site K-State program manager to assist students while living, learning and serving in Guatemala.
Working and studying abroad makes you an active and engaged part of a global community. This experience can enhance job prospects and make you more competitive in an international economy, give you a broader outlook, and inspire personal and professional growth. You will have the opportunity to acquire and cultivate skills and make a positive difference in the lives of the indigenous Maya. Our projected dates for summer 2024 are May 20 to June 28 and June 24 to Aug. 2.
Examples of service-learning opportunities include working in medical clinics, teaching nutrition lessons, assisting with community garden programs, assisting with clean water and disease prevention programs, presenting cooking classes, conducting community health assessments, developing physical activity programs, tutoring in English/computers/business skills, providing guidance on agricultural programs, teaching financial skills and entrepreneurial skills and pursuing research opportunities.
