Instructors: Take advantage of course and e-reserves programs today

Submitted by Cailin Wycoff

Have you heard about K-State Libraries' course reserves and e-reserves programs?

Course reserves allow K-State instructors to put physical materials, including textbooks, on reserve at several of K-State Libraries' locations. Students in classes utilizing course reserves can then access those materials for free by checking them out for a short period of time.

Similarly, e-reserves allows instructors to place digitized materials, such as scanned book chapters, images, lecture notes and more, on reserve online. Students can then easily access these materials online for free at any time, making it a great option for both on-campus and online courses. The program increases the accessibility of materials by providing searchable content that also is compatible with screen readers.

Both programs provide cost-saving benefits to students without increasing work for instructors. E-reserves can even reduce work for instructors if they were previously scanning materials themselves.

"This program improves the student experience, as it provides better access to resources and creates low-cost or no-cost course options," said Mellissa Polston, course reserves coordinator. "We believe that fewer clicks and a centralized location will improve student use of resources and increase overall academic success."

For more information on how instructors can add their own classroom materials to course or e-reserves, please contact haleres@k-state.edu. You can also learn more on the course reserves webpage.
