Office of International Programs celebrates Peace Corps Week Feb. 25-March 2
Submitted by Office of International Programs
The Office of International Programs is recognizing national 2024 Peace Corps Week Feb. 25-March 2, which honors how the Peace Corps fosters connections and contributes to meaningful change — in the United States and around the world. This year's theme is "Optimism in Action."
Peace Corps Week commemorates President John F. Kennedy's establishment of the agency on March 1, 1961. In more than 60 countries, Peace Corps volunteers are putting their purpose, passion and skills to work in partnership with welcoming host communities — growing, teaching, learning and making change.
Many K-State students have enjoyed volunteering during their university experience and wonder how they will be able to continue after graduation.
Service in the Peace Corps involves three months of training in country and then 24 months as a volunteer. After Peace Corps, many universities offer master's, doctoral or M.D. degrees to qualified returned Peace Corps volunteers for free or very reduced cost.
