Julian Alston to present 'Agricultural Policy and Obesity' Aug. 30
Julian Alston, professor in the department of agriculture and resource economics at the University of California, Davis, will present a seminar about "Agricultural Policy and Obesity" at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 30 in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building.
Alston has a long and distinguished career as an agricultural and applied economist. His past research topics have ranged from production economics to society's returns from research and development investment in agricultural research. He currently leads a wide-ranging research program on the economics of public policies related to food and agriculture and related issues. Over the past decade, within that broader program, he has studied the impacts of agricultural and food policies on obesity and malnutrition.
In this seminar, he will present results from a set of related papers in which he and his co-authors estimate and compare the economic welfare effects from various actual and hypothetical farm commodity and retail food policies that seek to encourage the consumption of healthier food.
