Kerry Priest to present 'Stories in Action: Navigating Change through Teaching Narratives'
Submitted by Ashley A. Schiffer
As part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development Series, Kerry Priest, professor of leadership communication, will present "Stories in Action: Navigating Change through Teaching Narratives" from noon to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 24, via Zoom.
We live and work in a time of great complexity and constant change — new strategic plans, IT system interruptions, uncertain budgets, shifting political contexts, pressures in our teaching, research and service appointments, increased concerns of well-being among students, faculty and staff … how do we navigate these complex conditions and show up as our best selves in teaching and learning spaces? This virtual workshop will use a narrative process based on a tool called Radical Inquiry.
The session is an opportunity for educators to connect, reflect and consider the role of their own story in navigating complex change. Participants will engage in a guided process to identify opportunities and possibilities in the midst of complexity. Through reflecting on questions like: "Who am I?" "What's important?" and "How do I connect?" you will develop a change narrative — a story that guides present actions in pursuit of future personal and professional goals — and develop simple rules, commitments to actions, that will help you live out that story.
