Annual campus security and fire safety reports available

Submitted by Ryan Van Dusen

Dear K-State students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends,

Kansas State University is dedicated to helping all members of the K-State community have a positive educational experience and is fully committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all. As part of that commitment, the annual security and fire safety report (Clery Report) is published each year to inform the public of information about crime on and around campus, efforts to improve campus safety and university policies. In compliance with the Higher Education Amendments of 1965, as amended, its purpose is to provide individuals with relevant information that will help them make informed decisions relating to their own safety and the safety of others. The reports are updated every year and contain fire and campus crime statistics for the previous three years on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or properties that are owned or controlled by K-State, and public property as required by law.

The 2020 reports for the Manhattan, Polytechnic, and Olathe campuses contain statistics for calendar years 2017, 2018 and 2019 and are available online at the link below.

Anyone, including prospective students and employees, may obtain paper copies of the reports upon request at the following offices for each respective campus:

  • Manhattan campus: The Office of the Vice President for Administration, 109 Dykstra Hall, 785-532-6226.
  • Polytechnic campus: Office of Student Life, 102 Student Life Center, 785-826-2971.
  • Olathe campus: Reception Desk in the Main Lobby, 22201 W. Innovation Dr., Olathe, KS, 913-541-1220.

K-State continues to sponsor various initiatives to increase awareness, educate and provide resources relating to individual and university obligations under the Clery Act. One of these initiatives is the REPORT IT webpage, a convenient global reporting website where reports related to Clery Act crimes; academic violations; code of conduct violations; students of concern; discrimination, harassment, including sexual harassment, work-related incidents, access barriers, and incidents involving a minor may be submitted. Some examples of campuswide initiatives and programs are campus security authority training, A.L.I.C.E. active shooter training, alcohol and drug education, Safe Zone training, the Rave Guardian app and residence hall fire safety programs.

The Report It webpage may be accessed directly at http://www.k-state.edu/report.

Have a safe and healthy winter break.

Sincerely,

Ryan VanDusen, Ph.D.
