Free registration for Research Safety Bootcamp for students

Submitted by Rachael Weiderman

The Kansas State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety is hosting the third Research and Laboratory Safety event Feb. 10-14 in partnership with Hale Library.

The Research Safety Bootcamp is designed for students, staff and faculty at all levels of knowledge and skills in research and laboratory safety. All attendees will receive a certificate in training from the Research Safety Bootcamp issued officially by K-State. An optional OSHA-10 certification course and 15 continuing education units for credentialing maintenance can be added on to registration.

This year, the program offers:

1. A comprehensive fume hood course with Labconco Corporation's experts Luke Savage, Cale Beiermann and Kasey Fulmer. Lunch is provided by Labconco. Use this form to indicate attendance to this course.

2. A Fisher Scientific Vendor Fair hosted in partnership with Senior Sales Representative Melissa Sides. Vendors joining us include representatives from companies specializing in laboratory products and services.

3. Breakout sessions with topics ranging from grant writing to situational awareness to one health presented by subject matter experts in their fields: Nancy Daniels, Jacqueline Aenlle, Andi Warren, Samson Jimenez, Jin Lee, Lisa Brummett, Sadish Karunaweera, Paige Adams, John Greer, Joanna Berg, Jeff Sheldon, Natalia Costa Ball, Josie Vanloozen, Chloe Wurst Edger and Rachael Weiderman. Register to attend the breakout sessions.

4. An optional OSHA-10 certification course with the Kansas Department of Labor and Tim Cruz that will include examples of how regulations and standards are applicable to laboratory and research environments . Certification is $10 or free with paid registration to the bootcamp. This is an industry-recognized certification for your resume/CV. Use this form to register for this course

5. An after-hours networking event with Fisher Scientific vendors and Melissa Sides — stay tuned for venue. We will choose a local restaurant to share food and network with the vendors and participants across the event.

6. Opportunities to experience the Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab, a state-of-the-art lab in Hale Library with studios, makerspaces and fabrication spaces stocked with the latest technologies and equipment, directed by Jeff Sheldon.

The full schedule and registration link is available on the website. Participants may attend sessions as available, and registration does not commit an attendee to attending all available sessions.

The Research Safety Bootcamp provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to network across departments, earn certificates, learn from subject matter experts, and be the first to explore the newest laboratory equipment and supplies.
