International Education Week continues with brown bag luncheons, awards ceremony, talent show
International Education Week continues today, this weekend and into next week.
A brown bag luncheon at 11:30 a.m. today in the International Technology Commons at Wildcat Landing — corner of Claflin Road and Denison Avenue — will feature speakers Janet McKinney, KSU Foundation Scholarship Award donor; Akmaral Kuralbayeva, Kazakhstan awardee; and Tracy Robinson, KSU Foundation.
McKinney will share her international Peace Corp experience and along with Robinson, highlight their family’s scholarship to Kazakh student, Akmaral Kuralbayeva. Kuralbayeva will talk about her experience in the U.S. and K-State and share a little bit about her home country of Kazakhstan.
Additionally, Christian Alvarado Gilis will present the International Coffee Hour on Chile at 4 p.m. today in the International Student Center.
Sunday, Nov. 17: Chinese scholar annual Gathering the Stars talent show at 1 p.m. in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. Join us to cheer on our fellow students and friends as they sing, dance and show off their talents for the audience. If you have a talent and would like to perform at the event, you can find more information and sign up at the table in the Union from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today. The top three students will also receive an awesome set of headphones, nanos and giftcards to Walmart.
Tuesday, Nov. 19: The office of international programs presents the 2013 International Education of the Year Awards Ceremony from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Alumni Center.
The ceremony will recognize three categories of exceptional service:
- 2013 outstanding support for international initiatives presented to Derek Jackson, the director of housing and dining services at K-State
- 2013 innovative education program of the year recognizing the Brazilian government
- 2013 international educator of the year awarded to P.V. Vara Prasad
The Kansas State community is invited to celebrate with the winners.
Wednesday, Nov. 20: A brown bag luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the International Technology Commons at Wildcat Landing will feature Marcelo Sabates, interim associate provost for the office of international programs, and P.V. Vara Prasad, the 2013 IEW Educator of the Year awardee.
The two will share how the winner's activities and efforts earned the recognition. Sabates also will provide an update to internationalizing our campus.
