Mathematics Colloquium lecture Nov. 21
Alexander Shapeev, from the University of Minnesota, will present "Coupling of Atomistic and Continuum Models of Solids: Construction, Analysis, and Computing" as part of the mathematics department Colloquium lecture series at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in 122 Cardwell Hall.
The abstract for the lecture is:
Atomistic-to-continuum (AtC) coupling is a popular approach of utilizing an atomistic resolution near the core of a crystalline defect (e.g., a dislocation or a crack tip) while using the continuum model to resolve the elastic far-field. In my talk I will:
- Give a brief introduction to crystalline defects and AtC coupling,
- Present one of the recent developments in construction of an AtC coupling method, and
- Discuss the complexity of computations.
