Experienced university, governmental administrator to give Provost's Distinguished International Lecture Series Friday
The International Activities Council and the provost's office are pleased to announce that Peter McPherson will be delivering the 2012 Provost's Distinguished International Lecture Series. McPherson's lecture is "Internationalization of a Public University." The lecture will be in Forum Hall at 1 p.m., Friday, and a reception will follow in the Flint Hills Room at 2:30 p.m.
Peter McPherson is president of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. He was president of Michigan State University from 1993-2004.
He is the chair of the board the directors for the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa and the International Food and Agricultural Development. He is the chair of the Project Advisory Committee of HarvestPlus. McPherson is the former chair of the board of Dow Jones & Company. From April to October 2003, he served as the director of economic policy in Iraq under the Coalition Provisional Authority.
In the years prior to being named president of Michigan State University, McPherson held senior executive positions with the Bank of America.
In the 1980s, McPherson held several governmental positions including deputy secretary of the U.S. Treasury, administrator of the Agency for International Development and chair of the board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
