Crawford joins Graduate School as associate dean
Duane W. Crawford, Lubbock, Texas, has been named to the position of associate dean in Kansas State University's Graduate School. He has also been appointed to the rank of professor in the College of Human Ecology's School of Family Studies and Human Services. Both appointments were effective Jan. 3.
Crawford comes to Kansas State with more than 20 years of experience as a graduate faculty member in higher education and more than 15 years of experience in graduate education administration. He received a faculty appointment in the department of human development and family studies at Texas Tech University in 1988, a role in which he taught graduate seminars in relationship development, family dynamics, and family theory, and served on more than 50 M.S. and Ph.D. committees. From 1993–2001 he served as the director of the department's M.S. and Ph.D. programs. In 2004 he was named associate dean for recruitment and admissions in the Graduate School, wherein he was part of a grant-writing team that received more than $9,000,000 in support of graduate student scholarships from 2006–2011.
His research focuses on the importance of couple companionship for marital relationships, the role of interpersonal compatibility in the development of premarital relationships, the changes that occur in marriage across the transition to parenthood, and the influence of workplace characteristics on patterns of family interaction.
Crawford is originally from Wichita. He earned bachelor's degrees in anthropology and psychology and a master's degree in anthropology, all from Wichita State University, and a doctorate in human development and family studies from Pennsylvania State University.
