Join Marcia Chatelain for 'Lessons from the #FergusonSyllabus: Social Justice in the Classroom and Community'
Marcia Chatelain from Georgetown University will speak to students at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building. Chatelain will discuss "Lessons from the #FergusonSyllabus: Social Justice in the Classroom and Community."
Chatelain travels across the world to talk to communities about an array of topics, including her research on girls and young women of color, the connection between civil rights and fast food, teaching about race and social justice, and women's leadership. Her first book, "South Side Girls: Growing up in the Great Migration," was released in March 2015. It is an examination of girls and young women during the historic Great Migration period in Chicago.
In addition to being a historian of childhood and youth, Chatelain is a committed social justice educator. In summer 2014, she launched the #FergusonSyllabus campaign to encourage teachers and professors to discuss the national crisis in Ferguson, Missouri. Chatelain has appeared on CNN, MSNBC and PBS to discuss race, community and education.
