Steel bridge team qualifies for nationals
K-State's civil engineering steel bridge team — Steel Willie XI — took first place overall in the American Society of Civil Engineers regional competition April 24 at the University of Kansas, qualifying for national competition.
The team scored first in economy, efficiency and construction speed, and second in lightness, display and stiffness. Team captains are Eric Hamilton and Don Powers, seniors in civil engineering. Team faculty adviser is Hayder Rasheed, professor of civil engineering.
This is the 11th straight time the team has qualified for national competition, this year hosted by the University of Missouri, Kansas City on May 22.
