Reporting and investigating sexual violence on campus: What every K-Stater needs to know
Submitted by Office of student life
Kansas State University has revised its policy to implement new federal guidelines for responding to reports of all sexual violence—including rape and sexual assaults. These new guidelines relate to Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions. Read K-State’s Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Violence, and Procedure for Reviewing Complaints.
All forms of sexual violence, including rape, are considered forms of sexual harassment under Title IX regulations. This means that reports of sexual violence occurring on campus must be investigated by the university as discrimination complaints. Sexual violence that occurs off-campus may also be investigated, if those occurrences relate to discrimination, harassment, or retaliation alleged on campus.
Here at K-State, reports of sexual violence and Title IX violations may be made at the K-State Women’s Center in 206 Holton Hall. The Women’s Center serves all genders and works with the office of affirmative action in Anderson Hall to ensure swift, discreet and equitable action in response to these reports.
For more information about Title IX and sexual violence, contact the K-State Women’s Center, the office of student life in 102 Holton Hall, or the office of affirmative action, 214 Anderson Hall.
