College of Business Administration's Peer Mentor Program matches 54 new students with mentors
The College of Business Administration's Peer Mentor Program has matched 54 new business students with 47 peer mentors, who are returning student leaders in the college.
The program is part of Professional Advantage and is in its second year. The goal of the Peer Mentor Program is to provide new students with a guide and resource who can help them navigate the College of Business Administration and K-State during their first semester. Mentors serve as positive role models, helping new students get connected to the university and ease their transition. Students and their peer mentors will meet throughout the fall to discuss goals the new students have set for their first semester and ways to be successful in and out of the classroom. Peer mentors and their mentees also will attend on-campus events together.
Among the 54 new students matched with a peer mentor, 13 are first-generation students, five are international students and 14 are transfer students. Students from all six majors in the College of Business Administration are represented in the group.
The peer mentors also come from a variety of backgrounds, but are all business students who have been in the college for at least a year and have demonstrated involvement on and off campus. Peer mentors must apply and interview for the program. Once accepted, they receive formal training in the spring semester covering their role and responsibilities, campus resources, cultural competence and other related topics.
