Architecture professor presents paper at international education conference
Mick Charney, associate professor of architecture and university distinguished teaching scholar, presented "The End of Lectures: Students' Positive Perceptions of Large Classes" at the Hawaii International Conference on Education, Jan. 3, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Charney discussed the results of a survey of several hundred undergraduate students on their attitudes about large classes; and, in short, their responses indicate that they are not as averse to such classes as one might suspect. From that data, he was able to suggest ways by which instructors can capitalize on students' positive perceptions of large classes and thereby fulfill the true end goals of delivering course content while modeling particular disciplinary skills in any lecture hall.
