Totally Tutoring hosts spring workshop at K-State, names award winners
The spring 2016 Totally Tutoring workshop took place April 30 in the Writing Center. Peer tutors from across campus had the privilege of learning about stereotype threat from Paula Gillespie of Florida International University. Tutors also worked on their own zines, telling their stories of overcoming stereotype threat, as well as brainstorming techniques they can utilize in their tutoring sessions.
More than 30 peer tutors were in attendance. They represented tutoring centers on campus including the Writing Center, Pilots Program, Education Supportive Services, Student-Athlete Services and Leasure Hall.
Not only did the peer tutors get to take part in this learning opportunity, but winners of this year's Tutors Make a Difference Awards were announced:
- Amanda Braun, Leasure Hall
- Mary Hellmer, Leasure Hall
- Shana Schmidt, Student-Athlete Services and the Writing Center
Brooke Boyington and Jennifer Zoebelin, both in Student-Athlete Services, received honorable mentions.
Victoria Banks and Kayla Davis each received an Educational Supportive Services Outstanding Tutor Award.
