Week one of the Movement Challenge is almost complete
Submitted by Human Capital Services - Benefits
The movement challenge is underway! If you are participating, you may have a few questions. If you aren't, it's not too late to join in.
Getting going
The biggest step to a lifestyle change is the first one. Make that step and you will reap the benefits of stress relief, increased energy and have additional time to clear your head as well as long-term benefits of prevention of chronic disease. The kinesiology department has put together a Movement Challenge weekly newsletter with tips and resources on getting started with physical activity and the benefits for you and your well-being.
If you are already active keep going! You've already made a good decision to be physically active and are likely already experiencing these benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Make it a family and friend affair. Encourage your co-workers, friends and family to join you on a journey of healthy living.
Track activity
The Movement Challenge is not only a personal challenge to commit to a healthy lifestyle but also a departmental competition. Your department cannot rise to the top without you reporting your activity. Track your activity throughout the day using a pedometer — HCS offers them for free — wearable activity tracker, such as a FitBit, smartphone app or use the activity converter provided on the Live Your Best website.
Enter this activity in the weekly eReport and watch your department rise to the top of the leaderboard. The weekly eReport will be sent to you each Sunday and will be available on the Live Your Best website. Watch K-State Today and your email for updates.
Extra weekly challenge
HCS listened to your feedback and made some changes from last year's challenge. This year's movement challenge will include an additional weekly challenge. Week One's challenge is to participate in an organized physical event. An example includes the Women of K-State sponsored Wednesday Walk, the Wildcats Run for Wellness 5K or any other organized event. HCS will host a drawing for a Jawbone UP2 for anyone that participates in one of these events. You can join in the weekly challenge and report your participation via Twitter and Instagram by posting a picture of your participation in the challenge with the hashtag #purpleisprogress.
