Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony to perform tonight
The K-State Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble will present concerts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in McCain Auditorium. Admission is free to the public.
The Wind Symphony will perform works by Jager, Ticheli, Giroux, and Holst. Guest conducting Gustav Holst's "First Suite in E-flat" will be Jay Gilbert, director of instrumental music and chair of the music department at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. Gilbert has been in residence this past week, teaching graduate classes and guest conducting. The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Alex Wimmer, assistant director of bands.
The K-State Wind Ensemble will perform works by Weagle, Harbison, Navarro, Dooley, Camphouse, and Boyle. Alyssa Morris, K-State's newly appointed professor of oboe, will perform Oscar Navarro's "Legacy Concerto for Oboe." Gilbert also will guest conduct Paul Dooley's "Point Blank." The Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Frank Tracz, director of bands.
