Free Making Movies concert in honor of Cesar Chavez Day
In honor of Cesar Chavez Day, the band Making Movies will perform a free concert at 9 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the K-State Student Union courtyard. Kansas State University students Enrique Salas and Eric Valenzuela will be featured as openers.
Before the concert, activist Dolores Huerta will give a presentation from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, with a mini reception in the courtyard before and during the concert's opening act at 8:30 p.m.
Making Movies blends pulsing Afro-Latino rhythms, psychedelic jams and rock 'n' roll swagger into powerful live performances that are full of theatrics. NPR raved about their ambitious and politically charged 2017 release, "I Am Another You," calling it "lyrically and sonically one of the best albums of the year." The band's political idea is straightforward enough that they can express it in four words: "We Are All Immigrants." In support of that cause, a portion of all proceeds from "I Am Another You" is donated to the National Immigration Law Center.
This free event is sponsored by Union Program Council. For more information, visit kstateupc.com or call 785-532-6571.
