College of Human Ecology, Libraries contribute to exhibition opening Friday at Flint Hills Discovery Center

An exhibition entitled “Forces: The Shaping of Manhattan, Fort Riley and Kansas State University” opens Friday at The Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan. The displays are the result of an 18-month collaboration by six organizations, including the Historic Costume and Textile Museum in the College of Human Ecology and the Morse Department of Special Collections at the K-State Libraries.
“Forces” will follow ideas, events and issues that have influenced the military post, a town and a college from about 1863 to World War I.
A member’s reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center, 315 S. Third St. “Forces” runs through Jan. 13, 2013. Discovery center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Other partners in the collaboration are the Environmental Division, DPW, Fort Riley; U.S. Cavalry Museum, Fort Riley; Riley County Historical Museum and the Flint Hills Discovery Center.
