Hunger happens: Hidden hunger on campus
As part of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance and in collaboration with Harvester's Community Network of Topeka and College Avenue Methodist Church, HandsOn Kansas State is planning the first mobile food distribution on a Kansas college campus to address food security.
From 3-6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium east parking lot, perishable food will be distributed to more than 600 households, with no questions asked.
The mobile food distribution is targeted to college students and their families. People are encouraged to drive through or walk in. Transportation will be provided on campus at the leadership studies building near the amphitheater and the K-State Union traffic circle near the Ahearn Field House and Bosco Plaza. Shuttle service will begin at 2:45 p.m.
REAL FOOD lunches, Supplemental Food Assistance, the Flint Hills Breadbasket, Second Helping, Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Riley County Research and Extension, the Seven Dolors food pantry and PowerCat Financial will also offer nutritional guidance, meal planning and budgeting information.
