Community garden sign-ups starting

Want to garden, but don't have the space or conditions where you live? UFM Community Learning Center coordinates the Manhattan Community Garden, available for campus and community gardeners. Sign-up begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at UFM, 1221 Thurston St.
The Manhattan Community Garden is the oldest community garden in Kansas and was started by UFM, K-State Horticulture faculty and volunteers from campus and community.
The Manhattan Community Gardens have two locations: Riley Lane at Ninth Street and 1435 Collins Lane. Both sites provide water, hoses, hand tools, power tools, mulch, compost and advice. Cost is income-based, ranging from an annual fee of $25-50 per plot with a one-time $10-20 deposit. In return, gardeners volunteer for two activities for the good of the garden, such as two-hour work sessions or helping with socials.
Sign-up dates are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2; 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26; 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 15; and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, all at UFM Community Learning Center, 1221 Thurston, in Manhattan.
