October is Exercise is Medicine-On Campus month
Submitted by College of Health and Human Sciences
For the third year, the Department of Kinesiology and the Kinesiology Student Association will bring to K-State the global health initiative, Exercise Is Medicine-On Campus, which was started by the American College of Sports Medicine.
American College of Sports Medicine has designated October as Exercise is Medicine-On Campus month. The program calls on universities and colleges to engage in the promotion of physical activity as a vital sign of health, and encourages faculty, staff and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community.
Earlier this month, President Myers signed a proclamation declaring October as Exercise is Medicine-On Campus month at Kansas State University.
The kinesiology department and KSA will host different activities for students, faculty and staff throughout the month. Participants can look forward to health and fitness assessments as well as the annual campus walk, which will feature Willie the Wildcat and a prize giveaway. Paddy Ekkekakis, associate professor of kinesiology at Iowa State University, will also present the lecture "The litmus test for achieving integration in Kinesiology? Developing interdisciplinary exercise prescription guidelines and physical activity recommendations."
