K-State band concerts Dec. 4 and 5
The K-State Band program will present its final fall semester concerts in McCain Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and Thursday, Dec. 5. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble will perform. The Wind Symphony will begin the concert with works by Mackey, Colgrass, Grainger and Shapiro. The Wind Ensemble will conclude with works by Yeo, Harris, Perrine and Press. The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Alex Wimmer, assistant director of bands and the Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Frank Tracz, director of bands.
Both groups will be joined by guest conductor John Zarco, director of instrumental ensembles and associate professor of music at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He will guest conduct Grainger's "Irish Tune from County Derry" with the Wind Symphony and Harris' "The Lighthouse" with Wind Ensemble. Faculty pianist Amanda Arrington, as well as percussionists Braedon Bomgardner, Brett Butler, John Eldridge and Brandon Wells, will be featured on Perrine's "Beneath a Canvas of Green" performed by the Wind Ensemble.
On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, and Mixed Chamber Ensembles will begin Thursday's concert. Composers of these works include Denham, Bach, Hanson, Persichetti, Jacob, and Perrine. These ensembles will be conducted by graduate students Allegra Fisher, Evan Ricker, and Eric Thompson as well as Alex Wimmer.
The Concert Band will conclude by performing works by Curnow, Van der Roost, Ticheli and King. Graduate students Grace Baugher, Allegra Fisher, Evan Ricker and Eric Thompson will conduct the Concert Band.
