Veterinary Medicine researchers publish porcine genome with international consortium
In collaboration with a community of scientists from across the world, anatomy and physiology researchers Yongming Sang, research assistant professor, and Frank Blecha, university distinguished professor, published "Analyses of pig genomes provide insight into porcine demography and evolution" in the Nov. 15 issue of Nature.
Sang and Blecha were responsible for annotation of innate immunity genes including type 1 interferons and antimicrobial peptides. Elucidation of the porcine genome sequence provides a valuable resource for further improvements of this important species in both agricultural production and biomedical research.
